Wolverine. For a movie goer the movie was great, for a comic book fan there were things that didn’t sit well. Liev Schreiber played a great Victor Creed, which with him and Hugh Jackman who really does play a great wolverine, I always thought so anyway, make the movie. It was a good way to start off the great movie summer, which looks like we are having, and is certainly worth a watch.

Star Trek. JJ Abrams who brings us the crazy show I’m addicted to, LOST, has proven that he can take a kinda outdated idea and put a new life spin to it which freaking rocked. And the slip making an alternative rout worked for me, not for some people, but I liked it. From the start to the end it was an enjoyable roller coaster, made even better with the appearance of Simon Pegg who played Scotty. The casting was great, Karl Urban played a awesome Bones, and the dude from Heroes so looks like he was cloned from Leonard Nimoy. I’ve talked to some die-hard Trek fans that really didn’t like it because of all the action, but Abrams pretty much said this movie was being made for people who like movies, so Trek fans might not like it. I would like to see a sequel and see more of this new Star Trek later on. So with this summer has officially started and 2 hits in a row, and so far it is going to blow last summer out of the water.

Next up Terminator Salvation. John Conner is back, and at some point I had to turn to Joe and say I’m Batman, since Bale used his Batman voice a bit. I give it to the guy though the man can act, hell he’s been at it for a long time, remember Empire of the Sun? No? Go rent it, great movie. I’ve been waiting for this since the end of T3. You can’t just let Skynet blow the shit of the planet and not want another one. The one problem I had was that every time I looked at Anton Yelchin I kept on going Chekov! For those who want to watch this but don’t want to watch the others, the governatater was sent to kill Sarah Conner to stop John Conner from being born, but fails, and in the second one, he is sent back to then protect John Conner from the evil guy who took over the 9th season of the X-Files, which worked, and then in the 3rd one is sent back again to protect the future Mrs. Conner. All the while they are trying to stop Skynet from rising up and taking over. But you learn that no matter what you can’t really change the past. And then you have Salvation, where the machines have taken over and John Conner is thanking his mama for making him the man he is.

Land of the Lost. We needed some comedy after the last three movies. I myself am not a Will Ferrell fan, but I am a Danny McBride fan, and if he hadn’t been in the movie I really don’t think I would have enjoyed it that much. And through out the whole damn movie I swear it was Seth Green who was playing Cha-Ka, but I was wrong. It was a fun comedy and worth watching for some laughs.

The Hangover.
This movie was freaking funny. I clearly see this becoming a instant cult comedy classic. Four friends get together to throw a bachelor party in Las Vegas, where after a crazy night of partying they wake up, with a baby, a tiger, a missing tooth, and a missing groom. They go through the clues and unravel a crazy fucking night, that they have no memories of. If you like comedies this is a summer must watch in theaters.

Next up if I can get someone to go, Drag Me to Hell, Pixar’s UP in 3D this Sunday, Year 1 in a week, Transformers 2 in 2 weeks that I am soooo excited about.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

I just finished Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Jane Austen and Seth Grahame Smith, and have to say it was a very fun read. Pride and Prejudice is by far my favorite Jane Austen novel, So reading this one with the zombies added in was funny. There were scenes that were exactly the same, and then there were parts where Lizzy got her revenge. Like that part when Mr. Darcy confessed he loved her against his judgment and it led to blows, which had my giggling. Lady Catherine and her ninjas, and her and Lizzy sparring. The horrible affliction on poor Charlotte, and the reaction that followed with Mr. Collin. Of course the story was still the same between Mr. Darcy and Lizzy, but after he doesn't want to dance with her at the first gathering, a zombie horde breaks in and Mr. Bennett yelling for the girls to form the pentagram of death was priceless. I really hope Seth Grahame Smith does one of Mansfield Park or Persuasion, which are my other favorites.

The Stand Captain Trips.

This was a very freaking hard graphic novel to find. I love The Stand by Stephen King, so I was sad when I discovered I couldn't get the issues of the new comic version put out. The other week we were in Fresno, and the comic book store had it. The art work is great, and the story is just the same. The characters are a bit different then what I'm used to, being a fan of the 6 hour mini-series, but they work well. If you are a King fan make sure you grab this up.

Last House of the Left Remake

I really was disappointed with this. Wes Craven had good stuff to say about it, but I thought it didn't stack up to the original. They could have held out certain scenes, and there could have been longer torture scenes like the original, because that is what made you feel for the poor girls and want to help the parents get back at these monsters. I do have to say that the scene when John tells Emma that their daughter was rapped, the emotion the two actors showed made the scene. So kudos to Monica Potter and Tony Goldwyn, but shame on you Wes Craven for saying this was better then the original.

Paul Rudd and Jason Segel made a great pair in this movie. Paul Rudd plays Peter, who never really had a best friend, and with the help of his family and friends he is set up on many man dates, until one open house he meets Sydney. And the two become great friends. The laughs are great, and the two deliver a very good comedy worth seeing.

Monsters vs. Aliens

If you haven't seen a digital 3D movie make this your first. The digital in this is freaking awesome. The story centers around Susan on her wedding day in Modesto CA. While she is outside by herself she is hit by a glowing meteor that pretty much makes her grow to be like 50 feet tall. The government takes her away, and puts her with the other monsters. The monsters are called to save the world when aliens attack. And through this Susan discovers herself. This cartoon is great for anyone any age.

I love Troma movie for their pure cheesy movies, and Zombiegeddon is up there. Tom Savini opens the movie as Jesus Christ. And he tells the chick he is that the end of the world is just a few hours away. She then goes on and tells her listeners, she is a college DJ, about the story. The last of a special blood line must kill the king of the Zombies to save mankind. There is Ninja Zombies, tons of cheesy gore and fake blood, boobs for you guys, and a zombie eating tiger.

I love 80s cheese horror. And Sleepaway Camp is one of the best. Angela lost her brother and father during a boating accident, and has never been the same. Now a teen, or almost a teen, her mother sends her off to camp with her cousin. She doesn't talk much, and all the girls think she isn't all that right. And then people start getting hurt, and then killed. But who is it? And what is wrong with Angela?

Classic Vault: Dolls

I remember watching this movie when I was little. I have to say it still carries a place in my heart. Not to overly gory, but it does have its scenes. A few people during a storm come across an old house, where the owners invite them to stay for the night. But they seem to like the kids at heart, and for those who aren't please leave the dolls alone.

Battle Royale

In the future teens turn on adults, not wanting to go to school, just rebelling against everything. The Government creates BR, a lottery of schools, classes are drawn, and that class, school goes to an island, where only one student can survive. I have to say thanks to Robbie for telling me about this movie. It is another Asian extreme, in your face gorepounding adventure. The very ending was kinda weak.

Suicide Club

Another crazy Asian movie. One day a bunch of girls jump in front of a train.

And then strange suicide packs start in schools. So kids everywhere are killing themselves. A tip takes detectives to a website. But there is soo much more. You also get a crazy wannabe flashy rockstar, a mom who has an accident while making dinner, and a little girl band. It does have a silly ending.

From what I’ve seen I really like Dario Argento. He does have a thing for sending girls off to weird schools. Jennifer Connelly plays a girl shipped off to school who has some kind of power over bugs. There is a real nasty scene when she falls in a pit of body parts, blood, maggots ect.

BTW the music is very interesting.

What can you say to 80s cheese horror. Love it. This is about a guy who as a kid watched his parents get killed by a hitchhiking Santa Claus. Years later, he gets out in the world to be a man, and well things go kinda bad for the guy when he snaps. Kinda bad for some co-workers as well.

This little Asian gorathon is actually more a sci-fi then horror. Kinda based somewhat in the future, and aliens have sent some kind of droid, which gets into humans and makes them machines. It kinda has a love story, that doesn’t end to well.

This is not your typical vampire flick. Set in a alternative universe where vampires came from viruses that humans were dying of. They become Brothers, perfect creatures who are protecting humans. But when some start playing with something that they weren't supposed to they taint the blood. The directing was very good, and so was the acting. I recommend this one to vampire fans, and just fans of sc-fi flicks in general.

Yes another by Herschell Gordon Lewis, this is about a man who is disfigured and he has esp. A witch, with the green face and evil cackle comes to him and offers him back his pretty face if he will be her lover. He takes his pretty face and uses his power to help the police solve crimes, but things always have a little twist. I really liked it, although it certainly is something weird.

Brought to us by Something Weird video, another one of those scare films. This one I liked. A "COOL-SWINGER" throws a sex and drug party, and some idiots bust in and try to ruin it. But in the end the bad guys get theirs. This I could actually see being remade it could be a bit modern. Not as porny as Alice in Acidland.

Dario Argento directed, screenplay by Stephen Weber, and short story is by Bruce Jones. This just shows how twisted some people are, lol. BTW so that is HOW you get a man, hell just jump him and rape him. What is Jenifer? I don't know but I would like to. She is some kind of demon of some sort, that likes living flesh, and gets jealous when she notices her man looking at someone else. This makes me really want to see Pelts also Directed by Argento.

Slowly you start to see this shy girl shouldn’t have been left alone. This movie was actually pretty crazy. If you like black and white thriller horror movies this is one for you.

This is a great thriller, and greatly done. It is in Japanese so not dubbed. It is still worth a look. These bitches are freaking crazy once they decide there is no turning back, and only one should live lol.

This is a fun over the top gory movie from Japan. A girl, who's parents had committed suicide and brother is killed by bullies, goes after the bullies. A few things happen like the loss of her arm, but she teams up with her brother's best friend's mom, who is seeking justice against the bullies for the death of her son too.

Now I had heard some gory stuff about this, and well it had its parts but as horror movie fans me and John saw some of the fakeness of this. This Japanese horror movie came out in 1985. The story is supposed to be that a killer recorded him killing a women, and sent it to his favorite artist. The artist watched it, and then made his own copy of this which is the version out on DVD.

We were told this was actually scary, and well not that surprised that it wasn't as scary as we were expecting. It reminds me of Them aka Ils which we watched back in June. I can see this scaring those who actually aren't used to watching horror movies, and the it could happen scenario is kinda scary. This stars the ever pretty Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman as a couple who are stalked and tortured with by three crazy people. If you liked Funny Games and Them then you'll like this movie.

Known as one of the top controversial movies of all time. It was released in 1978, and like Last House on the Left, this one deals with rape. The story line are sort of the same, but this one isn’t the parents going after the killers. A young writer rents a house by the river to write her book, and well the locals aren’t too friendly. The movie is okay once you get over the rape scenes, not over the top gore, but like I said back with Wes Craven’s Last House on the Left, as a woman I find these movies more disturbing for the reason that it could happen and it does.

This silly yet fun film comes from Taiwan. The SARS virus has mutated, and it makes people into zombies. The actors are silly, but fun and make the movie. The director had a lot of fun with this you can tell by just watching. If you loved Dead Alive, then you must give this a shot. And this by far has one of the funniest sex scene ever.

A cult hit from Japan. It was okay, I got kinda confused with it, and then there were certain things that kinda either made no sense or was just plane dumb. The story follows Ace, who is number 1, and his journey to be part of the band in the movie, Guitar Wolf, but something falls to earth reanimating the people into zombies. There is also a drinking game on the DVD, and be warned you will be asked to drink A LOT.

This was Wes Craven's I believe first movie. John let me borrow it after he had watched it and said it was pretty messed up. So today after work I put it on and watched it. This movie is pretty fucked up. Rape and torture, and a ironic twist. I read somewhere that it was actually banned for a time because of the graphic scenes. The music and sound effects are kinda silly but they seemed to fit. I was left shocked and very creeped out after the rape scene. As a woman these movies tend to be a more shocker then others. Because the whole wrong turn and that could be you thing, and what would you do? :o/

This animated Star Wars flick takes place in-between episode 2 and 3, it's okay. Skywalker receives his own padwan, after he made it clear he didn’t want one. This is supposed to be the start of a cartoon series. I’m not a fan of the newer episodes of Star Wars, but what I would like to see is something from the Old Republic or even something after episode six with them after the fall of the emperor.

This movie was just downright sick, twisted, funny, weird and I can keep going. Sex, music, gore, more sex, and piercing, and more sex. It is a sick twisted modern telling of Romeo and Juliet. A must watch for lovers of B rated movies, and of course this is put out by Troma who brought us Class of Nukem High and The Toxic Avenger. I also have to let everyone know that James Gunn, who did the New Dawn of the Dead, Slither and um Scooby Doo wrote the script for this.

This movie scared me the first time I watched it, the second time it didn’t because I was ready. But it still is a pretty good movie. A group of friends go cave diving, and find themselves in a different cave system, which is home to some kind of humanoid cave dwellers who happen to be carnivorous.

I could be wrong but I believe this was the first remake of the original. And of the other remakes this one was the best one. I like the actors, and the pod creatures. Girl’s family goes to live on a base, as her dad is EPA and came to check the area surrounding for toxins. They don’t know is that pod people have already taken over the base.

Alien is Alien. A group of people is sent to a planet, and secretly harbors an evil alien. I just think maybe it was a bit over the top, I mean you can’t kill it without really killing yourself because it has acid blood. And the idea of being stuck in space with that thing is scary. I like space kinda horror movies, Event Horizon, Sunshine ect. Because there isn’t much you can freaking do, and really be saved.

This is a must see horror comedy for horror fans. A crazy escaped looney person finds himself in a horror nerd’s house, and he and his friend groom him to be the best killer by taking all the movie killers and putting them together. But then he gets blood lust and the mayhem starts. This movie is funny, silly and gory.

It says it is a remake. It is NOT a remake. The story was okay, but I had a problem with some of the things the zombies did. I don’t think it was as good as the new version of Dawn of the Dead though. A virus gets out and starts turning people into zombies, and a handful of people are immune, they just have to make sure they don’t get bit.

Let there be pain. Pinhead isn’t one of my favorites, but he is an interesting character. And Clive Barker is one twisted man, and I love twisted. I haven’t read the Hellbound Heart, which the movies are based off but I heard some good stuff. The story is about a girl’s stepmom who helps her brother in-law become kind of fleshy again. The second one the girl finds herself in a Looney Hospital with a crazy doctor. Has an awesome scene of Pinhead becoming.

The book through me off a few times. As a teenish book there were some themes I wasn’t expecting. Bella and Edward get married, have an interesting honeymoon, and then it’s all downhill from there. I loved that we got an insight into Jacob. And well even what happens to him through me for a loop. I’m pretty sure the series is going to move to adult sci-fi now.

Again another classic I haven’t seen in years. It had a young Billy Zane and he got eaten by critters! The story for those who haven’t seen it is about alien beings who crash land on earth after breaking out of a galactic prison, and they are kinda hungry. The crash land on a farmers land, and him and his family have to not get eaten. Any way good stuff. I need number two, that one I liked a lot.

Movie starts off pretty funny, and then sort of goes downhill from there. A divorced couple talk a rich man into going treasure hunting with his daughter. Not only do they find out that they still love each other, but they help the rich man and his daughter bond closer. It was okay I could have waited for it to hit HBO.

I haven’t seen this in years. Right off the bat you could tell this was made back in the late 70’s early 80’s. A boy sees something he shouldn’t. And him, his brother and a friend get themselves in trouble with The Tall man. You have to see it to know more. Good classic.

Pineapple Express

Surprisingly the movie was pretty funny. A pot head witnesses a murder and pulls his dealer in with him as they hide from the bad guy. I do have to say that the movie has some gay themes I guess you can say in it. It was a fun watch so if you feel like a comedy it’s not bad.

X-Files I want to Believe.

X-Files I want to Believe.
What can I saw I love the X-Files. This was a bit different, but it was nice to see Moulder and Scully back together. I hope to see more movies as well. The story is about a missing FBI agent who comes up missing, and there is a man who says he is “linked” to her. The FBI ask Moulder for help, and says he will have a clear record. Of course he does it, which then puts a strain on his and Scully’s relationship, since they don’t live in the dark anymore. I love the interaction between the two. Did not like how they made Scully look in the movie, she is normally a pretty hot chick. The X-file was very interesting, and sort of possible, thanks to Valerie for looking into that.

The Mummy 3 Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
It was just alright. Jet Li is freaking awesome. He played the Emperor Han, who built the Great Wall of China using the slaves he had conquered. When they died their bodies were added to part of the wall. Han wanted to conquer death, so he called for a witch. Things happen and Han becomes a mummy, who is waked by the O’Connells. I think they rushed the ending, but they did have some interesting characters.

It was okay, the writer took the screenplay in a little different direction then the book, killing the people off differently. The nasty leg scene was still the same. Okay so maybe it was a little better then the book. This was about a group of people who go to Mexico for one big vacation before college, and they end up going to see some ancient ruins, that have a curse. I did the book review it’s under the May Listing.

Flight of the Living Dead: Outbreak on a Plane
This of course was going to be a bit cheesy, but it was still not that bad. The infected became zombies pretty quickly, and they were vicious. The story is about a flight carrying a test subject, who gets loose after some rough weather, and well it gets crazy from there. I liked some of the death scenes, and how they filmed it. The ending was pretty good, and the main guy was a pretty neat zombie.

Brought to us by Dimension Extreme. A bunch of famous people, or slightly famous people get invited to a secret New Years Eve party. They are given some tasks, which lead them through some nasty booby traps. It was interesting, I figured out the killer before the end though. It is actually worth watching.

Lost Boys 2 The Tribe
This could have been a good stand alone vampire movie, but the fact they called it a sequel is eh. A sister and brother find themselves knee deep in vampires, and Edgar Frog comes to help them out. Corey Feldman’s lines where all pretty much lame. And the vamps were slightly different power wise then the originals. Their deaths were kinds interesting. This I really don’t plan on watching again.

This little thriller was pretty good. Kinda freaky cause it could happen. Wes Bently plays a crazy security guard named Thomas who has a hard on for Angela. He holds her hostage on Christmas Eve down in the parking lot. It has some interesting gore scenes, and an evil dog.

George Romero’s second dead movie in his line of zombie movies. The zombies are taking over and a few people escape with a helicopter and decide to land on a mall. Where they end up staying for a while, trapping themselves by getting to comfortable. This movie has the biggest cult following by zombie fans. My favorite is Day of the Dead. Dawn has some great gut scenes. If you are a zombie fan and haven’t seen it, shame on you, you should go out and rent it.

The Dark Knight

What can I say it kicked ass. Heath Ledger played one hell of a joker. Sick and twisted, damn he did a awesome job. The story centers on Gordon and Batman teaming up with Harvey Dent, aka Two Face, to rid Gotham of the mob. But the Joker shows up to bring in the fun and chaos. I can’t say more without giving stuff away. Just go out and watch it, be prepared for some crazy shit. And get there early, because the shows are being sold out, and there is a line, you don’t want to be stuck sitting in the very front.

A woman who had a date, gets home, says bye to the babysitter and goes to sleep. She wakes up buried alive. That is just the start, as she is tested by the sick bastard who is looking for the perfect wife I guess. There are some good shots, it gets a little slow in the middle. But the ending is pretty messed up. It says it’s based on true story. There is a scene with a log, and a razor blade stitched into the body.

The Dead Pit is one of the cult classics from the 80s. A mad scientist is doing experiments on the patients in the looney ward he’s working in. A doctor finds out and blocks him in with the dead bodies. Years later a Jane Doe shows up with no memories, but she has a link to the hospital. And when an earthquake awakens the evil doctor Jane Doe might be a link. Some great gore scenes, cheesy 80s music, and of course no 80s horror movie is ever finished without some nudity.

I loved this movie from the first time I saw it. Who hasn't been stuck in the just friends category? Ryan Reynolds, deals with music biggies, but he years back he had been the fat kid in love with his best friend. There are great scenes with him and his brother fighting that will have you laughing. And of course it is a chick flick romance.

Shrooms

This movie comes from Ireland, and yes it does deal with shrooms. A group of friends go with a friend to have a wild weekend shrooming. Of course someone has to eat a BAD shroom, and bam, who knows what is real, and what is fake. The movie was pretty good, it had some interesting shots I really liked. I kinda predicted the twisty ending. I agreed with John the death scenes should have been a little longer. The lesson we learned from this is Drugs are bad, we kind of already figured that out. Also if your last dying words to me are I love you, please do not share it out loud. I have to say those are the last words I would like someone to say to me. Good horror movie, you should give it a chance.

Wall-e

I love Pixar. I love everything they have made, even their little shorts are awesome. Wall-e covers some things in real life that we need to think about. Which is us not taking care of our earth. Yes we all know about global warming and whatever, but we need to pay more attention to littering and so on. Sometimes we take too much for granite. Wall-e is the last robot trash cleaner on earth still operational. People have been gone for at least 700 years. Wall-e meets EVA who is on a mission for signs of life. When she is taken back to the ship carrying people, who rely on motorized chairs, and do all communicating with a screen. Wall-e ends up showing the people that they are surviving but they aren't living.

We watched the Thing during the week. I had seen it before, but John had not, so it is always fun to introduce your friends to things they had never seen and should. The story is about an Alien thing, that can mutate into whatever living form it gets attached too. I'm sure you all know there is a video game out there of it as well. Now let me tell you something John Carpenter was one crazy sick person in the 80's. Oh how I miss it :o( For those who haven't seen it you should pick it up and watch just for the spider head thing, and the chest with teeth! Oh yeah and let's not forget the evil dog monster.

Hellboy 2

Hellboy 2 was freaking great. If you liked the first one this one was way better. Guillermo del Toro did a wonderful job, bringing his vision to the screen. Bigger baddies, neat visuals, great fight scenes, humor and some romance added in. An ancient truce is broken, and Hellboy and coworkers (I guess) have to save the world. There is a great scene with Hellboy and some lockers which will have you laughing. It is certainly worth watching on the big screen.

Team building in the mountains in Eastern Europe goes bad, really bad. But first you have the irritating boss, the druggy, the american blond, the regular plain jane who had a big bug on her back, the smart ass employee, the token black guy, and the work place nerd who becomes the safety monitor, and then they have to walk to their cottage or what they thought was their cottage. The gore was okay and there was some funny parts. The ending was kinda lame. But there was a good scene with a bear trap.

You really got to love movies coming out of New Zealand. I mean think about it New Zealand did bring us Peter Jackson, who everyone knows for the Lord of the Rings trill. and the upcoming, Hobbit, but he also brought us Brain Dead aka Dead Alive, a must watch for any zombie fan. So on to the movie review The Tattooist is about a young artist, who steals a cursed old tattoo tool. Now it is said that a tattoo can give its wearer mystical properties. And this shows us what the Samoan people believe in. That their tattoos or tatua is really a religious part of their life. And if you don't finish your tatua you can actually bring shame on your family. The ghost who haunts Jake Sawyer, who played in Skin Walkers, is shamed, and in so pretty much takes it out on everyone Jake tattoos. This isn't a full horror movie, and there are some ick scenes, or ink scenes lol. But it is an interesting thriller. There is some dark humor, and a boy who can see the dead, and even use his body to communicate with them in an interesting way.

I had watched the original long time ago. But have to say they did a good job with the remake. For those who like gore, most of the shit that happens off screen. I do have to say the movie is pretty fucked up, and well the ending is sort of depressing. It did get slow in a few places but if you like a good thriller you should watch it. The story is about a family on vacation to their vacation home, and are kept captive and tortured by two men.

This comes from the makers of Independence Day and the Day after Tomorrow. The visuals are great, and I like the story line a great deal. I have always loved epic movies set in ancient times. This follows a man and his clan who are slowly dying off because they are set in the old ways of hunting and gathering. The wise woman also tells of what's to come. And a man who is trying to right his father's wrong for leaving the clan, and his undying love for a strange girl they found some years ago. When she is captured he goes after her, and becomes not a hunter but a leader.

Not as funny as I thought it was going to be to tell you the truth. This movie takes a glance at our film-society of today. How is a modern video store appointed? Big hits are the main thing, who cares about classics? Jack Black and Mos Deaf play funny friends try to make their accident right when the tapes at the store get erased. This movie on the one hand motivates the idea to use your own creativity - going out and make your own films. By being creative and making the movies they bring a community together and help save their home and local rental shop.

This movie was directed and written by Paul Soter, one of the crazy minds of the Broken Lizard clan, who brought us Super Troopers and Beerfest. Right now you can only rent it from Blockbuster. The story is about a guy Neil who runs a small rental shop, and loves his detective movies, and movies in general. Then he meets Violet, and she is rather crazy. She shows him action and adventure outside the screen. From breaking into a local big movie rental store, to her talking about her crazy stalker ex-boyfriends. It's a pretty good movie if you get the chance to check it out.

Them aka Ils

This movie is based on true events in Romania. It follows Lucas and Clementine who live out in an isolated big house. One night they are terrorized by hooded figures. This isn't as bloody as some of the other horror movies I've seen, but it is pretty suspenseful. And you sure will be sort of surprised when you discover who the killers are. It is subtitled, not sure if it's dubbed. But worth a watch.

This book is true events of Elissa Wall growing up a Fundamentalist Mormon. What she had to go through was pretty messed up. And reading this you see how something can warp the power structure of some power hungry idiot. Again Cults are bad people, and I know they were raised in the religion, but I would battle God over my own child, nothing would stand in the way of my own child's life. While she was married off at 14 it was the prophet who said so, even though she knew she was too young, and to top it off they married her to her first cousin who she disliked since she was little. It made me sick, I disliked her mother and the people she had to deal with. I cheered for her brothers, all her brothers questioned the faith and were either told to leave or just left.

The Signal

First off let me say yes the idea sort of reminded me of Stephen King's The Cell. Although instead of turning them into zombie things, the signal drove you crazy. I liked it. I thought the mix of horror and humor was pretty damn good. The movie followed three people, Mya, her husband Lewis, and her boyfriend Ben on New Year's Eve. Ben wants Mya to leave Lewis, and she agrees, but as soon as she gets home the world goes crazy from a signal that is coming through the TVs, radios, ect. Blood and mayhem cover the city, and Mya just wants to get to her meeting spot to wait for Ben, while Ben is looking for Mya and runs into Lewis. There is a great part when Lewis meets Clark and Anna, and the dark humor is great. I recommend it, it's not over the top gore, but the story is good, and the acting was well done as well.

I saw The Happening on Friday. I like M. Night Shyamalan ‘s work. He combines darkness with humor. The story takes place in the North East, starts in the parks in the big cities. What is it? Terrorist? It slowly starts spreading to the smaller towns. A man, played by Mark Wahlberg wants to protect his wife, and his best friend’s daughter. On the run from this disaster they meet up with some other people, and sometimes people can bring out the worst of a human being. And I think either you will like it or you won’t. I don’t think there is any in-between. I liked it.

This week’s horror movie was Otis. If you like dark humor this is right up your alley. It wasn’t very gory, and it had some parts that were over the top. A fight scene that seemed to be overly choreographed. But it was fun. A serial killer, named Otis, wants to take his girl Kim to the Prom. But he is now on his 6^th Kim, who is played by Ashley Johnson, who if anyone remembers played Chrissy Seaver from Growing Pains. Riley, or the next Kim, learns that to keep Otis happy she must play along. All the while her parents are being helped by a crazy FBI agent who isn’t very helpful at all. So when Riley breaks free her family decides to help her. In the hospital you see Mandingo, who happened to be the sort of killer in Sublime. Since it was made by the same director, he also made Rest Stop, which I haven’t seen, and Rest Stop 2 which is coming out soon. He made the Believers, which I really want to watch as well.

I had seen this when it came out in theaters, but John hadn't. I liked the movie. I like the darkness, the emotions, and the lack of music which made it seem darker somehow. I also enjoyed it because in the theater there seemed to be a part cut out, it wasn't much, but it was noticeable. So I finally got to see what happened. The evil chick was perfect, she made you hate her, like a good evil character. I liked the monsters, the weird spiders still icked me out. But all in all the ending still has to be one of the most messed up endings. Oh and did I mention I love Thomas Jane. He is such a great actor. John did mention that the giant monster thing sort of looked like the Cloverfield monster.

I had put off watching this, even though I had it forever. The kids had watched it and said it wasn't that good. So we watched it Friday, and I have to say it wasn't that bad, and I actually liked it. I liked the history of Leather Face, and how the town died. The killings were pretty good, some of the acting was bad though. I did like when the guy fell on the chainsaw.

Okay it was pretty dumb, but it did have some funny moments. But really I could have waited for this to be on a pay channel instead of watching it. A group of dumb stoners are working on a program called Strange Wilderness, which used to star one of the guys dad. Anyway they are going to get canceled cause they suck, and one of their friends says he has a map to where Big Foot lives, and so they go on a journey into the heart of South America to find Big Foot. Debating if I should watch PS I Love You. Eh maybe not.

Diary of the Dead.

I have to say I love George Romero. He can scare me, and give me Zombie dreams better than any other director. The story is set during the first 3 days of the zombie outbreak, sort of a prequel to Night of the Living Dead. Some college kids are making their end of semester horror movie, when they hear about the dead coming to life and attacking the living. The main guy, Jason, decides he will film what’s going on after first rescuing his Girlfriend from her college dorm, you see the havoc just no zombies. So on the way to her home, they run over a few zombies and the driver has a breakdown and well things don’t go pretty, they go to the local hospital, which any zombie fan knows is a no-no. So I was like ooohh no. Their myspace page is titled the Death of Death, and there are some references to youtube as well. Well of course they find themselves on this journey as they tape the zombies, so they could tell people the truth. Being that this was a documentary the camera shots were very good, and the zombies just popping up in front of the camera were pretty jumpy for me anyway. Of course there were a few things I was eh on, but I have to say this was way darker then Land, and worth watching for zombie movies. There is this creepy scene at the end, which is almost haunting too.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crytal Skull

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull started off great. Poor Indy was captured by the Ruskies lol. Love that. Sorry, Comrade. Any who you see a brief glimpse of the Ark of the Covenant. Fun clues, and chases. This is set in I believe 1957 during the Cold War, Indiana Jones finds himself tangled in Russia's plans to find the crystal skulls. Which are true items of Indian faith. In their belief there are 13, and in order to stop end of the world they all need to be placed in a special area somewhere in a Mayan temple. This is not how the movie goes. I think with some tweaking from George Lucas Spielberg gave it a different ending. And some of the CGI was a bit over the top. But I was glad that Spielberg didn't listen to Lucas on doing it on digital, Indy done mostly in CGI would have sucked. Shia LaBeouf's character Mutt was interesting, I guess they needed some young blood to connect to the younger audience. There is a funny part with Indy in fridge. If you like the movies go out and watch it.

Automation Transfusion & 13: Game of Death

We watched Automation Transfusion very low budget zombie movie. You have to sit through some bad acting, some goodish gore scenes to get to the plot of the film, which you find out towards the end. The scare scenes were very predictable though. I believe it was also shot on digital video. I mean thay is sort of the newish thing right? but still the quality of some of the shots wasn't very good. Three friends are off to see a band in the big city next to them, but they notice that fast, thinking, smelling zombies have taken over. And well they decide to fight back.

The next was 13: Game of Death. Okay there is some messed up things in this, but it also was funny. This comes from Thailand. It is about a guy Chet, who looses his job, his car and his girl and life just keeps beating him down. When a phone call tells him he can when money if he plays along for a new game show. It starts of easy, but it ends up being messed up. Great dark humor thriller. It is subtitled, but it is dubbed in English.

Sookie Stackhouse is back, and this book was actually sort of intense. Sookie has to deal with the were’s and the vampires, and her own life. I can’t say more other then Bob the cat is no longer a cat, and you meet Amelia’s dad, and vampire and werewolf politics suck. And Sookie has a great-grandfather, and some other family she didn’t know about. I didn’t like Quinn leaving, I wanted more Quinn. I liked that Eric remembered that time he lost his memory, and I don’t like that Sookie might be getting back with Bill in a few more books. It actually sounds like it.

Teeth, Sublime, & 27 dresses.

Teeth- Weird, sort of gorefest. A teen that is practicing abstinence discovers she has a mutation. But this mutation you can’t see, it’s hiding between her legs and it bites. When her mom dies she decides to get back. This is a funny dark comedy too, so you will find yourself laughing out loud.

Sublime- Not very good, rather slow until the last part. A man goes in to the hospital for a colonoscopy, and well it gets botched pretty badly. There is a pretty nasty scene involving plant sheers and fingers and toes. The ending was okay. Don’t watch this if you’re tired.

27 dresses was a cute chick movie.

Iron Man and Nim's Island Movie Reviews.

Iron Man- Action and comedy what more do you need? Robert Downey JR. did a great job bringing Tony Stark to the big screen. As some of you know through certain events, Tony Stark, head of a weapons company, becomes Iron Man. If you didn't know, make sure you stay for after the credits. I watched it on one of the smaller screens, but it was okay since I didn't much notice once I got into the story. This one is a must watch in the theater if you can. Sometimes certain comics hit and some miss. This one was a hit for sure, and I do want to see a sequel.

Nim's Island- Too cute, the imagery is great, the animals are cute. Abigail Bresner, Little Miss Sunshine, is adorably great as Nim. Her and her dad, Jack Rusoe, played by Gerard Butler, live on an island. When her island comes under attack and her dad goes missing, she asks for help from Alex Rover, her favorite adventure character. Who she actually gets is Alexandra Rover, the writer, who has OCD and a bunch of other problems. It is a great family movie, so catch it before it's out of theaters.

I've actually had Wristcutters for a while, but finally got to watch it today. Its a cute movie. When you commit suicide you don't go to hell as we know it, you just go to a worse place then this. Where you can't smile, there are no stars, and you were your suicide mark. Zia commits suicide over a girl, go figure, and wakes up in this new shitty place. One day he meets some guy he knew in other life who had committed suicide over the same girl, who happened to off herself after Zia. So Zia and his friend, who offed himself on stage with a guitar, go on a road trip to find her. But they pick up Mikal, and Zia finds he misses his old self around her. Its a cute movie, with miracles that happen even in a crappy place, and the car has a black hole in it. LOL.

Next one which I almost done with is The Tripper. This movie is by actor turned director David Arquette. Okay this is for anyone who loves B rated silly movies. A group of people which includes Jason Mewes and the chick from the 4400 go to a concert out in the forest, where they are hunted by a serial killer with a Ronald Regan mask, who really doesn't like hippies. Sex, gore, and weird hippy music with some very interesting actors makes it interesting. Thomas Jane place the sheriff, Balthazar Getty plays a smuck ex boyfriend, Lukas Hass plays new boyfriend, and Paul Reubens plays the guy behind the concert. Did I mention full frontal nudity on both sides?

First off Forbidden Kingdom was great, go out and watch it on the big screen. Jet Li and Jacky Chan were fun to watch, and the storyline, was kinda clicheish but still a fun watch. Great family movie to take the younger ones to.

On to the Horror movie.
We watched Frontier(s) this movie was actually pretty brutal, done in French with English subtitles, this one is not dubbed. Again another pregnant french chick, who gets brutalized. Her and some guys find themselves stuck in a inn ran by crazy neo-nazi inbreeding cannibals. Lots of blood, heads exploding, a regular explosion, and more. This was crazy, but still not as crazy, Inside has my gore of the year award so far. This is was also supposed to be a horrofest movie, but it was to brutal for American audiences.

The last was Storm Warning.
This one comes from Australia. Although the chick is French. A couple gets suck with a couple pot growing freaks. Now I will say this there is gore, but most of it comes from the chick when she fights back, chick is hardcore. I mean one of the booby traps she uses, well lets say you just have to see it, cause i'm still like wtf?!? lol. French people are flippin nuts. Both are good watches for those who like horror.

Mulberry Street & Inside

I finally watched Mulberry Street the 8th Horrorfest movie. It was okay. There were parts I was like um okay, and others which were just dumb. But the ending was pretty good, which made up for some of the dumb parts. And Come on the story is about infected rats, who attack humans and turn them into zombie rat things.

This weekend I watched one of the most messed up French movies ever called Inside. You really have to be able to stomach a lot of gore to watch this. A pregnant woman, who recently got into a bad car crash which killed her boyfriend is getting ready to have her baby, the doctors want to induce labor on Christmas. Some evil chick decides she wants her baby, and OMG it is pretty crazy. I had to cover my eyes during some of the scenes. So if you want something freaking crazy and gory check it out.

The Sugar Queen - Sarah Addison Allen

This book will officially be released on the 20th. And if you haven't read Garden Spells, which is her first book, it is a great book. The characters are well written and the story is great. This is for fans of Practical Magic, the movie not the book. The Sugar Queen is not a sequel but another stand alone book. Again her characters a great. Joesy, a 27 year old woman, has a secret, and as she takes care of her mother, who uses her as a slave. She finds herself stuck with an unexpected visitor, who won't leave her closet. Her books are usually about love and family, with a little magic added in. It's an easy red as well about a little over 200 pages. Pick up Garden Spells out in paperback, and on the 20th grab The Sugar Queen.

Plum Lucky- book review

I love Janet Evanovich's character Stephanie Plum. If you like goofy laugh out loud mysteries this is a must to read. This one was a between the numbers book which had the infamous Diesel. Of course sillyness is a must, when grandma finds a bag full of money, and is being stalked by a midget, who thinks he is a leprechaun.

If you haven't gone to see Cloverfield goooo. They way it was filmed was great for the idea. As if it was actually happening. The story is taped by a friend of the guy who is moving to Japan, and during his farewell party something attacks Manhattan. SOO, what is it you ask. I'm not going to tell you, but it is not a giant turtle like the rumors tell you. And you don't want to get bit! It had its oh shit, oh fuck moments, and it did start off sort of slow, beware for those with motion sickness. And they showed a teaser for the new Star Trek Movie, which comes out next Christmas.

Hatchet & Tideland-movie reviews

So last night I watched Hatchet. For those who love a great gore movie this one is for you. Tons of gore, one of my favorite scenes is the part when he rips apart the womans mouth and her tongue is all wiggling around and he pulls it out, or the bad guy twisting the other guys head off. Gornessgalore. Its got a nice campy feel to it which I like. It's not scary, but the gore makes up for everything else. Two friends go on this ghost of the bayou tour and are hunted by a deformed killer.

Also I watched Tideland by Terry Gilliam. The man who brought us, The Brothers Grimm, Time Bandits, 12 Monkeys, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and of course the Monty Python movies. He gives you a warning before you watch, and it is sort of crazy, you have a little girl cooking up heroin for her dad. But when you hear Terry Gilliam, you know its going to be different and the story is going to have its own twist on life. A young girl named Jeliza-Rose is transported to her grandparents' farm following her mother's drug overdose. Once there, she embarks on a fantastic voyage into a world of bog men and disembodied Barbie heads. The little girl is the one from Silent Hill and King's Kingdom Hospital. She plays the part of Jeliza so well.

The Ruins by Scott Smith, first off the book is way longer then is should be. He could have done what he did in 250 pages easy. The way he wrote made the horror scenes less scary, in a way it was like watching a movie on TV, and right when the scary part is going to hit, commercial. I saw the previews for the movie, and I know its going to be different then the book, but he also wrote the screenplay for it. The story follows friends who go to some ruins in the Mexican Jungle. Only to find an ancient evil. I just thought it would be scarier. I wanted scary, I got SOME gore, and well a bunch of winy girls. I think it could have been better, and I hope the movie actually is.

Now, Right at Your Door was a great thriller for those who like thrillers. I's about a couple who move to LA. The wife leaves to work, and while the guy is brushing his teeth, the emergency broadcast comes on, and it's not a test. It says that a bomb was set off in the middle of LA and that people should stay in their homes, only to find out three bombs where set off and the fumes in the smoke is carrying a very toxic chemical. While the man and the handy man from next door get the house all closed up the wife comes home. The end is great in a very messed up way, and this movie is one of the reasons I love independent films.

Crazy Eights- 1 of 8

First off I have to say the cast in this movie was pretty darn good. It had Traci Lords, Frank Whaley, Dina Meyer, Gabrielle Anwar, George Newbern, and one of the writers Dan DeLuca. It was short, I would have liked it longer with more history of the kids.

The story takes place when a friend dies, the others gather and go find an old chest they had hidden when they were younger. But when they open the chest, lost memories float to the surface from when they were little. And they find themselves trapped in an old hospital that holds those secrets. The building was great, and the writers did a great job of keeping the deaths not as corny, but also keeping the mood. I loved the camera shots, even the ones that made the characters look like they were loosing their minds.

Tooth & Nail- 2-8 of the Horrorfest DVDs

I had read a few reviews on all these when they came out, and wanted to know if they were worth it. And I heard sorta bad reviews about this movie. I would say I actually liked it. Its based in the near future, and we have ran out of gas. And civilization as we know it crumbled. Understandable if you think about how much we rely on technology. The movie is based around a few survivors who live in a hospital, their leader is a scientist named Darwin, played by Robert Carradine. When they help a stranger they didn’t know that she was being followed by cannibals. I like the idea of the story it is original. I really like post-apocalyptic movies, and I have to say going into the movie with low expectations I was happy to see it was actually pretty good.
